Two woods, one workshop tradition
Almost every piece that comes out of Chiniot is built from either sheesham or tali wood. Both are solid hardwoods that take carving well, but they're not interchangeable — the wood you pick affects weight, price, and how the piece ages.
Sheesham (Indian rosewood), explained
Sheesham is the heavier, denser of the two, with a distinctive dark, irregular grain that deepens with age and polish. It's the default choice for beds, dining tables, and anything that needs to handle daily weight and use.
Tali wood, explained
Tali is a lighter-colored, slightly lighter-weight hardwood that's still solid and durable, just less dense than sheesham. It carves cleanly and is a common choice when a lighter tone or a lower price point matters more than maximum density.
