Sheesham, also called Indian rosewood, is the backbone of Chiniot's furniture industry. Its density and interlocking grain make it strong enough for deep hand-carving without splitting, while its natural oils help resist moisture and pests.
Density and weight
Sheesham is significantly heavier than pine, MDF, or rubberwood — a genuine indicator of solid construction rather than veneer.
Grain and color
Fresh-cut sheesham ranges from golden brown to deep chocolate, darkening further with age and polish. The grain is irregular and never repeats exactly, unlike printed veneer.
Climate suitability
Its density and natural oil content make sheesham well suited to the humidity swings of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, provided the piece is properly polished and kept away from direct water exposure.
